10 Weeks: "Although he's barely the size of a kumquat (or a prune) -- a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom -- and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby now has completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature. If you could take a peek inside your womb, you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin."
We had our 10 week appointment today, and we were VERY freaked out when the doc couldn't find our baby's heartbeat with the doppler. She said that was normal because they usually check the heartbeat at around 12 weeks, but sometimes you can hear it at 10 weeks. I'm pretty sure she saw the worry (and tears) in my eyes, so she ordered an ultrasound for today. We were pretty scared. :( THANKFULLY everything turned out great on the ultrasound and the baby's heartbeat was 160 and was 3.24 cm long from "rump to head". :) He/She was moving all around and giving us different poses! It must have been the juice and ice cream I had right beforehand. :) The biggest relief of all is that the doctor said the risk of miscarrage drops to less than 2% when you hear the heartbeat! YAY! We are probably going to wait another couple of weeks to tell the facebook world, but all relatives and close friends are now allowed to know! (As long as there are no FB posts about it!)

3/7/11- Week 7: "Your baby has doubled in size since last week and now measures half an inch long, about the size of a blueberry." -Baby Center
Update: This week was mine and Kevin's birthdays! I couldn't celebrate the way I normally would, but still managed to have a wonderful time with him and a fun virgin drink! :) Kevin made us reservations at Chiminey Park (our FAVORITE restaurant) and the waiter brought us complimentary champagne because he knew we were celebrating our birthdays. I was pretty sad that I couldn't drink it! I ended up telling the waiter that I was expecting, and he had the bartender make me a super tasty orange and ginger spritzer. It was super yummy and tasted better than champagne! ;)
Feeling: At 7 weeks I was just waiting for the morning sickness to kick in since my doc said it usually does around 6 weeks. Nothing happened! Thank GOD!!!! I was still feeling really tired, and definitely feeling more bloated any "fluffy", but that's it. I think my mind was looking ahead to the next week and our nice, long, vacation to Savannah, GA and South Carolina! I was just really nervous about the long plane ride and all the LONG driving trips we were going to do. What if my morning sickness kicked in when we were on vacation? No Bueno!

Update: Week 8 was my FAVORITE week because we were on vacation! :) Kevin and I landed in Atlanta on Friday, March 11th and couldn't wait to hop into our super cool Nissan Altima and drive to Savannah! The only part that made me a little sad was that none of my cute shorts/skirts that used to fit me big, no longer fit anymore! It's crazy how much my body has changed in only 2 months! My middle section has widened and my belly is definitely getting bigger! I ended up packing lots of summer dresses and stretchy pants & shirts. :)
We fell in love with Savannah's beauty! Right next to a beautiful river, with cobblestone streets, and the nicest people I've ever met! We took a trolley tour around the city and had an amazing time learning about the history of this beautiful place. We also did some shopping in the open air marketplace and got some really cute presents for my best friend Cherrie who is expecting a little girl named Savannah in July! :)
We also spent a day in beautiful Charleston, SC! I would move there! It was so beautiful and charming. We had such a great time exploring on our horse carriage tour and saw where scenes from the movie The Patriot were filmed, along with a few other movies, and historic locations. The weather was in the 80's, so we were in heaven! The homes in Charleston were built in the 1800's and were gigantic and had so much detail! They were all about 4 stories tall with large shutters and huge porches! So beautiful!
The rest of our trip was spent in Myrtle Beach! It is the #1 golf location in the country, but Kevin decided not to play so that he could spend more time with me. That's love! :) We had a really relaxing time in Myrtle Beach and spent most of the week walking on the beach, collecting shells, eating, napping, and I also got a massage! We decided to drive to North Carolina for the day in the middle of the week and explored the USS North Carolina Battleship. I didn't think I would enjoy myself as much as I did! Everything was very hands on and I had fun turning knobs and opening up anything that I found. haha!
We also took a really great Jeep Safari tour of the surrounding area and that was probably the highlight of our trip! We visited an old plantation, walked around an ancient cemetary, explored salt marshes and oyster beds, saw alligators, and drove by rice fields. :)

Other changes abound: Your baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form -- as do her tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Your baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear."
Update: I'm still feeling GREAT! It's getting harder to find clothes that fit, but Kevin's sister sent me 3 boxes of maternity clothes that I'm picking up at the post office tomorrow, so I will finally have some clothes that fit! :)
We have our next OB/GYN appointment next Monday and I'm hoping that the doc will let us hear the heartbeat! I can't wait!
The biggest update for this week is that my Dad is back with us in Colorado! We've really missed him while he was in Colombia for 3 months. It is so great having him back! The best part is that we FINALLY got to tell him that we are expecting. We wanted to wait to tell him in person, and I'm so happy that I did because his reaction was perfect! We had a coffee mug made with a picture of us 3 and another picture that said "World's Best Abuelito" and the text at under the pictures said "Congratulations! You're going to be an ABUELITO again! Oct. 2011!"
I am exactly 6 weeks pregnant today! Half-way through my first trimester already! :) Kevin and I had our first prenatal appointment today, and got to meet Dr. Guiroy, our OB/GYN! I was a little nervous about meeting her because I wanted to make sure that I was comfortable with her, and that I got a good "vibe" from her. As soon as she walked into the room, I felt completely at ease. She was so happy and energetic! I felt like I've known her for years!
After talking to our doctor for awhile, and answering some questions, we learned that there is a 99% chance that she will personally deliver our little "pumpkin!" Most other clinics have several OB/GYN's, and there is no guarantee that your doctor will be the one who actually delivers. It's usually whoever is on-call. I felt so at ease to know that she would be there, even if it's on her day off! She also speaks fluent Spanish because her husband is from Argentina, which my dad will LOVE! haha. :)
At the end of our visit, I had to get some blood work done. NOT FUN! The doctor said that we should be able to hear the baby's heartbeat on our next visit which is in 4 weeks. She also said that right around this time is when morning sickness starts. So far, I haven't felt any of the morning sickness symptoms, so we'll see! I'm really scared! :/
After our appointment, I went with my friend Judy to Whole Foods for a "date" and some yummy snacks! She bought me a slice of my FAVORITE chocolate cake, a mini Ben & Jerry's vanilla ice cream, and a bag of Sea Salt and Vinegar Kettle Chips! Random cravings, but SO good!
Well....Kevin and I had our first visit with the OB nurse today! We went through all of the "Family History" questions, health questions, and overall concerns/feelings. Unfortunately, these questions brought up my mom's passing, which was REALLY hard for me to talk about. It's so scary and emotional knowing that I'm going to be having my 1st child without her. I never imagined that such a happy time in my life would also be filled with such sadness. I'm trying my best to stay positive and not get too emotional. I'm so lucky to have such great people in my life who are going to support me through all of this!
The visit went great overall and the nurse gave us some fun reading material to get us ready for our little one!
We scheduled our first prenatal appointment for next Monday, the 28th! We'll get to meet Dr. Guiroy who will be my OB/GYN and bombard her with a BILLION fun questions! ;)
I'm feeling SOOO tired lately. It's crazy how exhausted I am. All I want to do is sleep and eat! So far, I haven't experienced any morning sickness. The occasional nauseous feeling will sometimes come by, but it doesn't last long. I've also been making myself do at least 35 minutes on our elliptical every night so that I stay somewhat healthy.
When I'm not sleeping, or eating, I'm reading every baby book and website known to man! Here are a few of my favorites so far!
I woke up to my alarm at exactly 6:30am on Tuesday, February 15th and had a gut feeling that something was "different." I decided to take a pregnancy test, and as I sat in the bathroom waiting for the results, I kept telling myself, "You're probably not pregnant." "Don't be sad...there's always next month." "There's no way you could be pregnant this soon." Well, guess what? I looked down, and starring back at me was the word "pregnant" on the test. I broke down and started sobbing uncontrollably as I held the test in my hand. I could NOT believe it!!! I couldn't stop crying and smiling! It was the best/weirdest feeling in the world!
I instantly thought about how I was going to tell Kevin. Do I wait until tonight to plan a fun dinner, or go to Party City to buy a bunch of baby stuff to surprise him after work? Ugh...who am I kidding? I have no patience! I still wanted to do something special, so I went into my dad's room and sat at his desk. I opened up the drawer and found a pink and blue highlighter inside. PERFECT! I grabbed a piece of paper, and folded it in half to make a (late) Valentine's Day card for Kevin. I didn't get a chance to buy him one over the weekend, so I felt terrible when he surprised me with flowers, a card, and dinner! I figured this "late" card would DEFINITELY make up for it! ;) After decorating the card inside and out, I went to wake him up so that he could read it. He was a little confused when I woke him and said that he had to sit up and read the Valentine's Day card I made for him...right NOW. haha. I turned on the lights and opened the blinds so he could see my "surprise" message. I will never forget the look on his face when we opened the card and read "I'm Pregnant!" surrounded by pink and blue hearts. His jaw dropped and his eyes started to water as he said "Really?!!!"
It was the happiest moment of my life! We sat on the bed and cried, laughed, and held each other for awhile. Being the planner that I am, I immediately figured out my expected due date. Turns out our little bundle of joy will be making his/her entrance on October 24th! (The day after my daddy's birthday!) We can't wait to meet our little "Pumpkin"!
To celebrate our BIG NEWS, Kevin surprised me with a chocolate ice cream cake from Coldstones! We had no idea that chocolate was on the "do not eat" list for pregnant women. Haha! Oh well! It was GOOOOOD!!! We both laughed at the Coldstone girl's grammar skills. ;)
