17 Weeks: (5/15/11) "Baby's now the size of an onion!Baby's skeleton is hardening, changing from rubbery cartilage to bone, and fat is finally accumulating around it. His umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger, and those little fingers and toes now feature one-of-a-kind prints."
UPDATE: Not much news this week. After last weeks big announcment, this week was pretty boring. :) We were really looking forward to our San Jose trip the next weekend for Cody's baptism and our baby shower! Work has been going by really SLOW lately. I can't wait until my last day of work on June 10th! :)
16 Weeks: (5/8/11) "Baby's now the size of an avocado! Watch what you say...tiny bones forming in baby's ears mean he can now pick up your voice. A few more minuscule changes: Eyebrows, lashes, and hair are starting to fill in, and taste buds are forming."
UPDATE: This has been a very exciting week! I celebrated my first Mother's Day on Sunday with some very fun presents from Kevin, followed by an AMAZING brunch at Jay's Bistro w/ my Dad and Kevin! They enjoyed unlimited mamosas, but I stuck to plain ol' OJ. The food was SO good, and the restaurant was beautiful. :) We followed brunch with a beautiful hike near the Poudre River. Bailey had a great time cooling off in the spring, and we all enjoyed the fresh air! It was a perfect Mother's Day, even though it was an emotional one without my mom. I know she was watching over us though!
ULTRASOUND: What a week this has been! We had our 16 week doctor's appointment on Monday, 5/9 and heard the baby's heartbeat again. :) We also talked to the doctor about the possibility of finding out the sex of the baby early by doing our ultrasound soon. We are leaving for Cody's baptism on 5/20 and decided to have our baby shower on that Sunday since we'll already be in San Jose, so we really wanted to be able to register ASAP. The doctor told us that the hospital wouldn't do an ultrasound before 20 weeks. :( I was really bummed, so I found a 3D/4D private ultrasound center and called them for more information. They told me that they would be able to determine the sex at 16 weeks, so we made an appointment for the following day!!!!
That morning, my dad, Kevin, and I headed over for the big "reveal", and I was both nervous and excited to finally find out if we were having a little "Isabella" or "Logan". :) To be completely honest, I really wanted the baby to be a girl. I was excited for the name Isabella Rose because of the use of my mom's name in it. I was CERTAIN we were having a girl. Almost to the point that I wanted to go ahead and register for frilly little pink dresses and bows. Well...I'm glad I didn't, because we soon found out that my little "Isabella" was a BOY!
I was in shock at first, but after a few minutes of seeing our little Logan dancing around, and kicking my bladder (he was breach), I fell in love. He looked like a little person! We saw his heart pumping fast, his fingers and toes, and his beautiful profile. It now felt SO real! I knew that this baby was a blessing and that we were the luckiest parents in the world! I hope Logan doesn't get upset that I wanted him to be a girl for awhile! :)
13 Weeks: "Your baby is now the size of a peach! Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head -- which makes up just a third of her body size now."
So, I've read in a few places that the 2nd trimester begins at 13 weeks, and I've read in other places that it begins at 14. I'm sticking with 13! :) We had our 13 week visit with Dr. Guiroy today! It was a pretty quick and easy visit, but we DID get to hear the baby's heartbeat with the doppler. I was nervous at first because at our 10 week visit, she wasn't able to find it. That definitely wasn't the case today! After just a couple of seconds, she found it and it was awesome! She said it was approximately 150 beats per minute! :) It almost sounded like horses galloping under water. haha. It was very cool!
Symptoms: I've had pretty bad headaches lately! :( I asked the doctor at our visit today if that was normal, and she said that I can blame the hormones. Apparently it is a very common symptom in the 2nd trimester. The only medicine I'm allowed to take is plain ol' Tylenol, which doesn't always do the trick. Naps can sometimes help, so I've been sneaking those in when I can. But overall, I'm SO thankful that this is the worst pregnancy symptom I've experienced so far! I'll take this over morning sickness any day! :)
Week 12: "Your baby is now the size of a plum! His fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it."
I can't believe I'm already at 12 weeks! Time really does fly by! So far, I'm feeling really great. I did have some pretty painful back issues in the last couple of weeks and was referred to a D.O. (doctor of osteopathic medicine). She fixed me right up, and gave me some exercises I can do at home. I'm also starting to get some energy back, and starting to see some definite changes in my body! I can't wait until I actually start to "show" and am not just bloated! haha!
Cravings: I can't get enough fruit in my body! I'm currently obsessed with mangos, and had a 3am craving last night for watermelon...but we didn't have any! :( Needless to say, Kevin is at Whole Foods right now getting me a big supply of some! I also had a cravings for grilled cheese sandwhiches! Anything with cheese actually. :)
Week 11- "Baby's now the size of a lime! Your fetus currently enjoys a 1:1 ratio between body and head, and has skin so transparent that blood vessels show right through it. But fingers and toes are no longer webbed, and hair follicles, tooth buds, and nail beds are forming -- setting up a significantly more attractive future."
Nothing too exciting has happened so far this week! My back is starting to feel a little better after it went out last Thursday. Kevin took such great care of me and woke up with me at 3am to rub my back. We talked and laughed for 2 hours while he rubbed my back til 5am. My Ob/Gyn referred me to a D.O. which is a doctor of osteopathic medicine. I was able to get an appointment with her on Friday for an OMT (Osteopathic manipulative treatment), which is basically an adjustment of my spine and adjoining muscles done by a doctor and not a chiropractor. It really helped me get through the day! She also recommended that I do some floor exercises and begin doing prenatal yoga.
10 Weeks: "Although he's barely the size of a kumquat (or a prune) -- a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom -- and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby now has completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature. If you could take a peek inside your womb, you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin."
We had our 10 week appointment today, and we were VERY freaked out when the doc couldn't find our baby's heartbeat with the doppler. She said that was normal because they usually check the heartbeat at around 12 weeks, but sometimes you can hear it at 10 weeks. I'm pretty sure she saw the worry (and tears) in my eyes, so she ordered an ultrasound for today. We were pretty scared. :( THANKFULLY everything turned out great on the ultrasound and the baby's heartbeat was 160 and was 3.24 cm long from "rump to head". :) He/She was moving all around and giving us different poses! It must have been the juice and ice cream I had right beforehand. :) The biggest relief of all is that the doctor said the risk of miscarrage drops to less than 2% when you hear the heartbeat! YAY! We are probably going to wait another couple of weeks to tell the facebook world, but all relatives and close friends are now allowed to know! (As long as there are no FB posts about it!)

3/7/11- Week 7: "Your baby has doubled in size since last week and now measures half an inch long, about the size of a blueberry." -Baby Center
Update: This week was mine and Kevin's birthdays! I couldn't celebrate the way I normally would, but still managed to have a wonderful time with him and a fun virgin drink! :) Kevin made us reservations at Chiminey Park (our FAVORITE restaurant) and the waiter brought us complimentary champagne because he knew we were celebrating our birthdays. I was pretty sad that I couldn't drink it! I ended up telling the waiter that I was expecting, and he had the bartender make me a super tasty orange and ginger spritzer. It was super yummy and tasted better than champagne! ;)
Feeling: At 7 weeks I was just waiting for the morning sickness to kick in since my doc said it usually does around 6 weeks. Nothing happened! Thank GOD!!!! I was still feeling really tired, and definitely feeling more bloated any "fluffy", but that's it. I think my mind was looking ahead to the next week and our nice, long, vacation to Savannah, GA and South Carolina! I was just really nervous about the long plane ride and all the LONG driving trips we were going to do. What if my morning sickness kicked in when we were on vacation? No Bueno!

Update: Week 8 was my FAVORITE week because we were on vacation! :) Kevin and I landed in Atlanta on Friday, March 11th and couldn't wait to hop into our super cool Nissan Altima and drive to Savannah! The only part that made me a little sad was that none of my cute shorts/skirts that used to fit me big, no longer fit anymore! It's crazy how much my body has changed in only 2 months! My middle section has widened and my belly is definitely getting bigger! I ended up packing lots of summer dresses and stretchy pants & shirts. :)
We fell in love with Savannah's beauty! Right next to a beautiful river, with cobblestone streets, and the nicest people I've ever met! We took a trolley tour around the city and had an amazing time learning about the history of this beautiful place. We also did some shopping in the open air marketplace and got some really cute presents for my best friend Cherrie who is expecting a little girl named Savannah in July! :)
We also spent a day in beautiful Charleston, SC! I would move there! It was so beautiful and charming. We had such a great time exploring on our horse carriage tour and saw where scenes from the movie The Patriot were filmed, along with a few other movies, and historic locations. The weather was in the 80's, so we were in heaven! The homes in Charleston were built in the 1800's and were gigantic and had so much detail! They were all about 4 stories tall with large shutters and huge porches! So beautiful!
The rest of our trip was spent in Myrtle Beach! It is the #1 golf location in the country, but Kevin decided not to play so that he could spend more time with me. That's love! :) We had a really relaxing time in Myrtle Beach and spent most of the week walking on the beach, collecting shells, eating, napping, and I also got a massage! We decided to drive to North Carolina for the day in the middle of the week and explored the USS North Carolina Battleship. I didn't think I would enjoy myself as much as I did! Everything was very hands on and I had fun turning knobs and opening up anything that I found. haha!
We also took a really great Jeep Safari tour of the surrounding area and that was probably the highlight of our trip! We visited an old plantation, walked around an ancient cemetary, explored salt marshes and oyster beds, saw alligators, and drove by rice fields. :)

Update: I'm still feeling GREAT! It's getting harder to find clothes that fit, but Kevin's sister sent me 3 boxes of maternity clothes that I'm picking up at the post office tomorrow, so I will finally have some clothes that fit! :)
We have our next OB/GYN appointment next Monday and I'm hoping that the doc will let us hear the heartbeat! I can't wait!
The biggest update for this week is that my Dad is back with us in Colorado! We've really missed him while he was in Colombia for 3 months. It is so great having him back! The best part is that we FINALLY got to tell him that we are expecting. We wanted to wait to tell him in person, and I'm so happy that I did because his reaction was perfect! We had a coffee mug made with a picture of us 3 and another picture that said "World's Best Abuelito" and the text at under the pictures said "Congratulations! You're going to be an ABUELITO again! Oct. 2011!"
